Leuven's Gothic town hall, stone by stone
Highlights
- 236 statue niches, mostly empty
- Gothic stonework, up close
- Guild houses across the square
- A town hall built over decades
- Leuven's centre in one short stop
About this tour
This short session is a close look at Leuven's Stadhuis and the square around it. You see the carved statue niches in detail, then step back to take in the guild houses across the Grote Markt. It is a focused visit to one building and its setting.
We start right at the facade with a quick sound check, then move through the two stops without much walking between them. I leave time after each stop for questions about the building's design and unfinished statues. A short note on the town hall's history follows by message.
It suits anyone with limited time who still wants a proper look at Leuven's best-known building. It also works well as a quick add-on before or after a longer walk.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Leuven before heading out.
-
Stadhuis facade 15 min
The camera moves slowly along the carved niches, and I explain that only part of the planned 236 statues were ever carved.
-
Grote Markt square 15 min
We step back into the square itself, and I point out the guild houses opposite that once housed the city's trade associations.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Leuven: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Belgian waffles and Kessel-Lo, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.

- Times are shown in Brussels time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 7 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
