Outremeuse and the world of Georges Simenon
Highlights
- A writer's neighbourhood, explained
- Simenon's fiction, traced to real streets
- Outremeuse's own festival traditions
- Liège beyond the historic centre
- One district, one writer's whole world
About this tour
This session covers Outremeuse, the district where the writer Georges Simenon was born, and the square at its centre. You see the street of his birth and hear how much of his fiction drew on this neighbourhood, then walk to the main square to hear about the local festival traditions still kept alive here. It links one writer's work to the streets that shaped it.
We start with a sound check on the birth street, since it stays fairly quiet outside festival dates. I move to the square for the second stop and take your questions about Simenon or the district's traditions as we go. A short reading list follows by message afterwards.
It suits anyone with an interest in literature or Liège's more local, less touristy neighbourhoods. It also works well paired with a session in the historic centre across the river.

Good to know

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
