Highlights
- A cathedral gone, its remains still visible
- The Perron, symbol of independence
- Liège's civic heart, explained
- A square built over centuries of history
- One monument, hundreds of years of meaning
About this tour
This session covers Place Saint-Lambert and the Perron monument nearby, the civic heart of Liège. You see the wide modern square and hear how the old cathedral once stood here before its demolition, then stop at the Perron to hear why this stone fountain became a symbol of the city's independence. It links a lost building to a monument that still stands.
We start with a sound check on the square, since it can be busy with trams and pedestrians. I move to the Perron for the second stop and take your questions about the cathedral or the monument's history as we go. A short reading list follows by message afterwards.
It suits anyone with an interest in civic history or the city's medieval independence. It also works well as an opening session before a longer walk through the centre.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
