Kepler's Linz and the cathedral spire
Highlights
- The house where Kepler worked on planetary laws
- A spire built deliberately lower than Vienna's
- A cathedral where Bruckner once played organ
- Two cathedrals from very different centuries
- Serious history in a city visitors often skip
About this tour
This session links Kepler's old house near the town centre with Linz's two cathedrals, the Baroque Alter Dom and the much larger Neuer Dom. You see the building where Kepler worked on his planetary laws, then the newer cathedral's spire, deliberately kept lower than Vienna's, and finally the older cathedral's entrance where Bruckner once played. It is a close look at how much serious history sits inside a city many visitors only pass through.
I start at Kepler's house and move toward the cathedrals at an easy pace, since the three stops sit close together. Questions come in throughout, particularly about Kepler's time in Linz, and I answer them as we walk. A short list of names and dates follows once we finish.
This suits anyone with a serious interest in the history of science or church architecture. It also works well as a first session for visitors new to the city.

- Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 7 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Linz before heading out.
-
Kepler House Facade 21 min
You see the house near the old town where Johannes Kepler lived while working out part of his laws of planetary motion.
-
Neuer Dom Spire 21 min
From the square, I point out how the cathedral's spire was built deliberately lower than Vienna's, out of respect for the capital.
-
Alter Dom Entrance 21 min
At the older cathedral's doorway, I explain how the building predates the newer one by centuries and once employed composer Anton Bruckner.
-
Your questions 14 min
Time to ask anything about Linz: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 6 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Linzer Torte and Altstadt, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Vienna time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
