The National Pantheon, seen from the square
Highlights
- A dome that took centuries to finish
- A riverside view from raised ground
- History explained from the square outside
- A natural pairing with the nearby market
- The Pantheon, seen rather than entered
About this tour
This session shows the National Pantheon from Campo de Santa Clara, the square just outside it, rather than from inside the building itself. You see the large white dome up close, then a riverside view from the raised ground beside it. It pairs naturally with a visit to the nearby Feira da Ladra market.
We start with a sound check facing the dome, then move to the riverside viewpoint for the second stop, taking questions about the building's long construction. I send a short list of names and dates once the session ends.
It suits anyone interested in the building's history without necessarily wanting to see its interior, and travellers already in the area for the market. This session covers the exterior and surrounding square, not the Pantheon's interior halls.

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Lisbon before heading out.
-
The dome 15 min
The camera looks up at the Pantheon's large white dome from Campo de Santa Clara, and I explain how long the building took to complete relative to its original plans.
-
The riverside view 15 min
We move to a viewpoint beside the building, and I point out the river visible from this raised part of the old town.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Lisbon: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Grilled sardines (sardinhas assadas) and Alfama, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Lisbon time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
