Inside Lublin Castle's chapel frescoes
Highlights
- Byzantine frescoes inside a Catholic chapel
- Commissioned by a king in 1418
- A geometric ceiling, explained in detail
- An older keep inside a rebuilt castle
- Medieval art rarely seen this closely
About this tour
This session goes inside Lublin Castle's Chapel of the Holy Trinity, painted with Byzantine-style frescoes commissioned by King Jagiello in 1418. You see the castle's neo-Gothic exterior first, then the frescoes themselves in close detail, finishing on the geometric ceiling pattern above them. It is a close look at one of Poland's more unusual pieces of medieval art.
We begin outside with a short sound check, then move into the chapel where I hold the camera steady on specific sections of the painting. I explain the technique and the history behind commissioning it as we go, and a written list of what we covered follows afterwards.
It suits anyone with an interest in medieval art or the mixing of Catholic and Byzantine styles. It also works well paired with a session on the market square for a fuller day in Lublin.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 6 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Lublin before heading out.
-
Lublin Castle exterior 17 min
The session opens outside the nineteenth-century neo-Gothic exterior, and I explain how a much older keep survives at the centre of the rebuilt castle.
-
Chapel of the Holy Trinity 17 min
Inside the chapel, the camera holds on the Byzantine-style frescoes commissioned by King Jagiello in 1418, and I point out details in the painting technique.
-
Chapel ceiling detail 17 min
We look up at the ceiling specifically, and you see how the geometric patterns frame the figures below, a style rarely found in a Catholic chapel of this period.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Lublin: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Pierogi and Czechow, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
