Lucerne beyond its medieval walls
Highlights
- The city beyond its medieval walls
- Plainer architecture, a different Lucerne
- Neustadt, compared directly with the old town
- A fuller picture of the whole city
- Lucerne's newer side, explained
About this tour
This walk covers the newer district around the station rather than the old town across the river. You see the area's different character up close and the plainer, later architecture built once the city outgrew its medieval walls. It stays within Neustadt throughout.
I explain how this side developed differently first, then walk further in to show the later architecture directly. Questions about the comparison with the old town are welcome throughout.
This suits anyone who wants a fuller picture of Lucerne beyond its frescoed core. It also works well paired with either old town session for contrast.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide
- Questions to your guide all the way
- A short list of places to visit later
Not included
- Internet connection

-
Bahnhof Area 15 min
The camera looks at the newer district around the train station, and I explain how differently this side of the city developed compared with the frescoed old town nearby.
-
Neustadt Streets 15 min
Walking further into Neustadt, I point out the later, plainer architecture built once the city expanded beyond its medieval walls.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Lucerne: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Rösti and Neustadt, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
