About this tour

This session focuses on the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière's mosaics, both outside and in the parts of the interior where filming is permitted. You see the ornate exterior's unusual mix of styles before a close, steady look at the mosaics lining the walls inside. Théo, who studied Roman history, explains the stories the mosaics tell, layer by layer.

The call opens with a sound check outside the basilica, then moves carefully inside where allowed. Théo keeps an unhurried pace throughout and enjoys the back and forth of live questions more than a fixed script. A short list of what was shown follows by message afterwards.

This suits anyone with a specific interest in religious art or mosaic work. It also works well before or after seeing the basilica for yourself, with a fuller understanding of what to look for.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Lyon before heading out.

  2. Basilica exterior detail 21 min

The camera takes in the basilica's ornate exterior, its mix of styles unusual even for a 19th-century church. I point out which sections were added later than people usually assume.

  3. Interior mosaics 21 min

Where filming is permitted, the camera holds steady on the basilica's colourful mosaics lining the walls. I explain the stories they tell, since most visitors walk past without ever looking up properly.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Lyon: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Salade lyonnaise and Vieux Lyon, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 7 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
