About this tour

This session covers Málaga's Roman theatre, uncovered by accident in the 1950s, from its stone seating tiers to fragments of its columns reused in the Alcazaba wall directly above. You see how one era's building material became another era's foundation. The two stops sit close together, making for an easy, explanatory session.

We begin at the seating tiers with a short check of the light, then move up to the reused stones in the wall, pausing to explain the practice of reusing material across centuries. I answer questions about the accidental discovery in some detail, since that tends to draw the most interest.

This suits history-minded travellers curious about layered cities, and anyone who enjoys archaeology explained plainly. It works well paired with a longer Alcazaba session either before or after.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Malaga before heading out.

  2. The seating tiers 15 min

The camera settles on the stone seating tiers of the 1st-century Roman theatre, uncovered by accident in the 1950s during building work for a cultural centre that was never finished.

  3. Reused stones in the Alcazaba wall 15 min

You see column fragments from the theatre built directly into a later section of the Alcazaba wall above, and I explain how builders often reused whatever stone was already on site.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Malaga: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Boquerones fritos and La Malagueta, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
