Turning Torso, nine cubes and a twist
Highlights
- Nine cube sections, twisting upward
- Inspired by a turning human spine
- Sweden's tallest building, explained
- A skyline changed by one structure
- Engineering explained by an engineer
About this tour
This session looks at Turning Torso from the plaza around its base, Sweden's tallest building. You see the nine cube sections twisting upward and hear how the design was inspired by a sculpture of a turning human spine. Elsa draws on her engineering background to explain the rotation itself.
She moves around the plaza at a steady pace, pointing out the building from different angles as the twist becomes clearer. Questions about the engineering involved come up regularly, and she answers with detail from her own training.
This suits anyone interested in modern architecture and engineering. It pairs with Elsa's second session along the coast, where the same skyline is visible from further away.

The twisting frame 15 min
The camera looks up at Turning Torso from the plaza at its base, and I explain how its nine cube-shaped sections rotate a full ninety degrees from bottom to top.
-
Sweden's tallest building 15 min
Walking around the base, I point out where the building's design was inspired by a sculpture of a twisting human spine, and why it briefly became the tallest building in Scandinavia.

Time to ask anything about Malmö: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Toast Skagen and Möllevången, worth a slower look.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
