Les Arceaux market beneath the aqueduct
Highlights
- Stalls set beneath ancient stone arches
- Wine from vineyards near the city
- A market shaped by its own setting
- Generations of the same trading spot
- Local produce away from the crowds
About this tour
This session moves through the market at Les Arceaux, set out directly beneath the stone arches of the old aqueduct, from vegetable stalls in the shade to a wine stall of small local producers. You see how the market has used this exact spot for generations and which local wines suit the region's food. It is a session about a market shaped by the structure looming over it.
We move slowly given how full the stalls get on market days, pausing longest at the wine stall. Questions come in throughout, and I am happy to point the camera at any stall someone wants a longer look at. A short list of stalls follows the call.
This suits anyone curious about local produce and wine away from the main tourist streets. It also works well alongside a session on the aqueduct itself.
Included

- A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
- A short list of places and dishes to try later

Stalls beneath the arches 21 min
The camera moves along stalls set out directly beneath the aqueduct's stone arches, vegetables and bread laid out in the shade they provide. I point out how the market has used this exact spot for generations.
-
A wine stall 21 min
At one stall, you see bottles from small local producers, several using grapes grown within sight of the city. I explain which of these wines pair with the region's stronger dishes.

Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Montpellier: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Fenouillette de Montpellier and Les Arceaux, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
