Promenade du Peyrou at sunset
Highlights
- A statue replaced after the Revolution
- A water tower lit by the last light
- The Cévennes visible on a clear evening
- A seventeenth century esplanade at scale
- Montpellier's calmest golden hour
About this tour
This session walks Promenade du Peyrou as the light turns warm, from the equestrian statue at its centre to the hexagonal water tower at its far end. You see the scale this seventeenth century esplanade was built at and the hills visible behind the tower on a clear evening. It is a simple route built around one formal garden and the way it changes at this hour.
We keep a relaxed pace along the esplanade, stopping longest at the water tower as the light drops. Questions come in throughout, and I will hold the camera on any detail someone wants a longer look at. A short note on the site's history follows the call.
This suits anyone who wants a calm, visual session rather than a packed itinerary. It also works well as an evening close to a longer day in the old town.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Montpellier before heading out.
-
The equestrian statue 21 min
The camera looks up at the statue of Louis XIV on horseback at the centre of the esplanade, replaced after the original was destroyed during the Revolution. I explain why the square was built at this scale in the first place.
-
The water tower at golden hour 21 min
At the far end, you see the hexagonal water tower catch the last direct light of the day, the Cévennes hills visible behind it on a clear evening. I point out the aqueduct arches leading away from its base.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Montpellier: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Tielle sétoise and Comédie, worth a slower look.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
