Vieux Nice's quiet courtyards
Highlights
- A courtyard behind a narrow gap
- Painted shutters that are not real
- A chapel door easy to miss
- Vieux Nice's quieter corners
- Details most visitors walk past
About this tour
This walk follows three quiet corners of Vieux Nice, from a narrow courtyard entrance to a painted facade and a chapel door most visitors miss entirely. You see the shared laundry courtyards, the trompe-l'oeil decoration common across the old town, and one small carved detail worth a closer look. It is a route built around looking closely rather than covering ground.
We move slowly given the narrow lanes, pausing longest at the painted facade. Questions come in throughout and I will double back for a second look at any detail someone asks about. A short list of what we saw follows the call.
This suits anyone who likes wandering old streets more than ticking off landmarks. It also works well before or after a session on the Promenade for contrast.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 6 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Nice before heading out.
-
A narrow entrance 17 min
The camera follows a gap between two buildings most people walk straight past, opening onto a small courtyard behind it. I point out how many of these courtyards were once shared laundry spaces for several households.
-
A painted facade 17 min
Further in, you see a building front painted with trompe-l'oeil shutters and balconies that are not actually there. I explain why this style of painted decoration became common in the old town.
-
A quiet chapel door 17 min
The walk ends at the plain door of a small chapel tucked between two shopfronts, easy to miss entirely. I point out the one carved detail above the door that gives away its age.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Nice: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Salade niçoise and Le Port, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
