About this tour

This session walks Alfama as the evening comes on, from its narrow lit lanes to a small square and church, finishing at a viewpoint looking toward São Jorge Castle. The guide explains the stories behind these streets as the light changes around them. It is a slower, quieter version of Lisbon's oldest district than a daytime walk gives.

The call opens with a sound check, then follows the three stops as dusk settles over the rooftops, with live questions taken throughout the walk. A short list of what was covered follows once the call ends.

This suits anyone who prefers a city at night or anyone missing Lisbon and wanting an evening somewhere else. It also suits returning visitors who have only seen Alfama by day.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Lisbon before heading out.

  2. Alfama lanes at dusk 17 min

The camera moves through Alfama's narrow lanes as the streetlights come on, and the guide points out laundry lines and tiled façades that catch the evening light differently than at midday.

  3. A square and its church 17 min

In one of Alfama's small squares, the guide tells the story behind the church that anchors it and explains why so many of these buildings were rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake.

  4. A miradouro at night 17 min

From a miradouro above the rooftops, the camera looks out toward São Jorge Castle lit up on its hill, and the guide answers questions as the city settles into evening below.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Lisbon: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Bifana and Alfama, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Lisbon time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
