Passeig des Born to Plaça Major
Highlights
- A boulevard built over a stream
- Townhouses held by old families
- A square on a darker site
- Ironwork balconies above eye level
- A simple layout of the centre
About this tour
This session covers the short walk from the tree-lined Passeig des Born to the open square of Plaça Major. You see grand townhouses still owned by old island families and the ironwork balconies above the square's cafe terraces. It is a good introduction to how Palma's centre is laid out.
The pace is easy since the route is short, so I use the extra time to answer questions about the buildings we pass. I try to look up rather than just ahead, since most of the detail in this part of town sits above eye level. We finish in the square itself rather than rushing through it.
This suits first-time viewers who want a simple orientation to the centre before exploring further themselves. It also works as a short session if you only have a little time to spare.
Included

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Palma de Mallorca before heading out.
-
Passeig des Born 15 min
You walk the tree-lined boulevard that used to be a stream running through the city. I point out the grand townhouses along it, several still owned by the same families that built them.
-
Plaça Major 15 min
The square sits on the site of the old Inquisition headquarters, now ringed with cafe terraces instead. I show you the ironwork balconies above street level, easy to miss if you only look straight ahead.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Palma de Mallorca: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Pa amb oli and Santa Catalina, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
