The Seine's banks at the hour they empty out
Highlights
- Riverside paths built for barges, not walkers
- A view of Notre-Dame painters have chased for a century
- The Seine's banks as the crowd thins out
- An evening hour most itineraries skip
- A calm walk between two of the river's bridges
About this tour
This evening call follows the Seine's lower banks along Quai de la Tournelle as the daytime crowd starts to thin out. Maxime explains how these riverside paths were originally built for barge traffic rather than pleasure walking. The session finishes on the bridge for a view of Notre-Dame that has drawn painters for over a century.
Maxime starts along the quay with a short check of the light. He walks toward the bridge, answering questions about the river's history as they come, and sends a short note on the best evenings for this walk afterwards.
It suits anyone who prefers the river at a quieter hour. It also works well as a calm finish to a longer day of sightseeing.

From the bridge, the camera looks back at Notre-Dame across the water, and Maxime points out how this exact angle has stayed a favourite for painters for over a century.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
