Port wine in Gaia with a former cellar worker
Highlights

- Six ports lined up, explained bottle by bottle
- How barrels once came down the Douro by rabelo boat
- Reading a port label without being fooled
- Cheese and chocolate laid out at the last stop
About this tour
This session goes inside two port cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia, one a large historic house and one a small family lodge, with a former cellar worker as guide. The camera moves along barrel rows, takes in old photographs of the rabelo boats that once carried port down the Douro, and finishes with six ports lined up on the counter. It is a close look at how port is made, stored and read, rather than a walk through the streets.
After a sound check, the guide moves between the two cellars in order, explaining each style of port as the camera settles on it, and takes questions throughout. A short list of the ports and terms covered is sent once the call ends.
This suits anyone curious about port wine and how it is aged, whether planning a Porto trip or simply interested in the craft behind the bottle.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
