The Powder Tower, an old gate into the city
Highlights
- A Gothic gate beside an Art Nouveau hall
- One of the old city's fortified entrances
- Centuries of architecture, side by side
- A striking contrast, properly explained
- A short stop with a clear story
About this tour
This session covers the Powder Tower and its unlikely neighbour, the Art Nouveau Municipal House next door. You see the tower's Gothic base, once part of the old city's fortifications, then the contrast it makes standing beside a much newer building. It is a short session built around one striking architectural contrast.
I start at the tower and step back for the wider view for the second stop, explaining the contrast as clearly as the camera allows. Questions come as we go, and I am happy to explain the tower's original gate function again if it is unclear. A short note on climbing the tower separately follows by message afterwards.
This suits anyone who enjoys architectural contrast alongside history. It also works well as a short add-on to the Municipal House session.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
