Prague Castle and the cathedral at its centre
Highlights
- The largest ancient castle complex
- A cathedral holding royal tombs
- A thousand years of Czech rulers
- Gothic architecture, explained plainly
- The seat of power, still in use today
About this tour
This session covers Prague Castle's main courtyard, the exterior of St Vitus Cathedral and the approach to the Old Royal Palace. You see the scale of the largest ancient castle complex in the world, then the Gothic cathedral that holds the tombs of Bohemian kings. It is a broad introduction to a site that has functioned as the seat of power for over a thousand years.
I move steadily between the three stops, since each holds enough history to fill the time alone. Questions come throughout, and I am happy to go deeper on a specific ruler or period if you ask. A short note on visiting the cathedral's interior separately follows afterwards.
This suits anyone visiting Prague for the first time who wants the castle properly explained. It also works well before a longer session on one of the castle's smaller corners.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
