About this tour

This session shows a working morning inside Pučka tržnica, the cast-iron and glass market hall built in 1903. You see the marble fish counters downstairs and the fruit and vegetable stalls above, with produce that changes through the Istrian seasons. My family has traded fish here for three generations, so this is a market explained from the inside.

We start downstairs with a sound check among the fish counters, then move upstairs for the second stop, taking questions about what is in season. I send a short list of what was on the stalls that day once we finish.

It suits anyone curious about everyday Pula rather than only its monuments. It also suits early risers, since the market is busiest before mid-morning.

Included

  • Live video session with a local guide
  • A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
  • A short list of places and dishes to try later

Not included

  • Food and drinks shown on camera
  • Travel to the city

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Pula before heading out.

  2. The fish hall 15 min

The camera moves along the marble counters of the 1903 cast-iron market hall, and I explain what is being sold that morning and why my family has traded here for three generations.

  3. Produce stalls 15 min

Upstairs among the fruit and vegetable stalls, I point out the seasonal Istrian produce on show and how the market changes through the year.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Pula: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Istrian truffles and Stari Grad, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Zagreb time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
