  • Bird colonies through the breeding season
  • Open coastline away from the centre
  • A tide-timed walk on the edge of the city

About this tour

This session follows a tidal causeway out to a small lighthouse at the very tip of the peninsula, timed around the tide that cuts the point off from the mainland for part of each day. You see the causeway, the lighthouse itself, and the birdlife that depends on the surrounding shoreline. It stays outdoors throughout, moving at a relaxed pace along flat, open ground.

After a short sound check at the start of the causeway, I walk out stop by stop, explaining the tide and the wildlife as we go. I answer questions live as they come and send a short note afterwards on the best tide times for anyone who wants to visit themselves.

It suits anyone who enjoys coastal nature and quiet open spaces, and anyone curious about how a tide can reshape a landscape twice a day.

Included

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Reykjavik before heading out.

  2. The tidal causeway to Grótta 21 min

The camera follows the sandy causeway to the lighthouse, and I explain how it floods at high tide, cutting the point off from the mainland for a few hours each day.

  3. Grótta lighthouse 21 min

You see the small white lighthouse up close, and I point out the bird colonies that nest around the point during the breeding season.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Reykjavik: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Skyr and 101 Reykjavik, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Reykjavik time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
