The Acropolis of Lindos: three eras, one headland
Highlights
- A temple, a stoa and a castle on one site
- Lindos village shrinking below the climb
- An ancient stoa built as a grand approach
- Medieval walls wrapped around classical columns
- Three periods of history on one headland
About this tour
This session climbs to the Acropolis of Lindos, a fortified headland holding an ancient temple, a colonnaded stoa and a later Knights' castle wall built around them. Eleftheria shows the climb up before reaching the stoa and finally the Temple of Athena Lindia itself. She explains how three very different periods of building ended up layered on the same narrow site.
Eleftheria checks her connection at the base of the climb, keeping a steady pace so the walk stays easy to follow. She answers questions about each period of construction as she reaches it and pauses longer at the temple itself. A short list of what was seen follows the call.
This suits travellers interested in seeing multiple periods of history stacked on a single site. It also works well for anyone who enjoys a short, scenic climb alongside their sightseeing.

The climb up 21 min
Eleftheria climbs the path toward the acropolis, the camera catching the village of Lindos shrinking below and the sea opening up on both sides of the headland.

The ancient stoa 21 min
At the top, a long colonnaded stoa comes into view, and she explains how the ancient Greeks built it as an approach to the temple beyond.

The Temple of Athena Lindia 21 min
Reaching the temple itself, she points out how a Knights' era castle wall was later built directly around the ancient columns, layering medieval defence on top of classical religion.

A short list to keep 6 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Souma (a local grape spirit) and Old Town (Medieval City), worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
