About this tour

This session follows a harvest morning in a Santorini vineyard, from the low kouloura vines to the family's own wine cellar. The camera moves between hand-picked Assyrtiko grapes, a canava where the crop is trodden by foot, and the press where the must first runs. It ends at a cellar table where older vintages are opened and discussed.

The call opens with a sound check before following the harvest in its real order, picking, treading, pressing, and finishing in the cellar, with questions welcome at any point. A short note on the grape and the vintage goes out once the call ends.

This suits anyone curious about how Assyrtiko is actually made on volcanic soil, whether they already know the wine or are hearing about kouloura vines for the first time. It also suits someone who enjoys watching a harvest unfold in real time from somewhere else entirely.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Santorini before heading out.

  2. Kouloura vine rows 21 min

The camera moves along vines trained low in a basket shape to survive Santorini's wind, and the guide shows how Assyrtiko grapes are picked by hand from inside each coil.

  3. Old canava 21 min

Inside the old wine cave cut into volcanic rock, the camera watches grapes being trodden by foot the traditional way, a method the guide explains step by step.

  4. The press and courtyard table 21 min

Near the press, the camera follows fresh must running off before it becomes wine, then moves to a table set outdoors with bread, cheese and figs from the same land.

  5. Family cellar 21 min

In the cellar where the family ages its wine, the guide opens a few finished bottles and talks through how this year's Assyrtiko compares with vintages already bottled.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Santorini: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Fava (split pea puree) and Oia, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Athens time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
