About this tour

This session goes inside a family kitchen in Vratnik to watch three traditional Bosnian pies being made from scratch. You see the dough stretched by hand across the table and three different fillings shaped side by side. It ends on the old city walls above the neighbourhood, looking down over Sarajevo.

The guide checks sound in the kitchen, then works through the dough and each filling step by step as questions come in about the recipe or the family behind it. There is time to ask about ingredients, timing or substitutions throughout. A written recipe for all three pies is sent on afterwards.

This suits anyone interested in home cooking rather than restaurant food, or planning to try these pies themselves. It also suits former visitors curious what a Sarajevo household kitchen actually looks like.

Included

  • Live video session with a local guide
  • A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
  • A short list of places and dishes to try later

Not included

  • Food and drinks shown on camera
  • Travel to the city

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Sarajevo before heading out.

  2. A family kitchen in Vratnik 21 min

The camera is set up in a home kitchen in Vratnik, flour already dusted across the table. The guide explains why this recipe has stayed inside the family rather than in a restaurant.

  3. Stretching the dough 21 min

The camera follows the dough being stretched by hand across the whole table until it is almost see-through. The guide explains how thin it needs to get before it can hold a filling without tearing.

  4. Filling three pies 21 min

The camera shows three different pies taking shape side by side, one with spinach, one with potato, one with cheese. The guide names each one, zeljanica, krompiruša and sirnica, and explains what tells them apart once baked.

  5. The old city walls 21 min

The session ends on the old walls above Vratnik, the camera panning across Sarajevo laid out in the valley below. The guide points out the neighbourhood just cooked in and explains why this stretch of wall was built here.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Sarajevo: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Klepe and Marijin Dvor, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Sarajevo time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 6 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
