Inside Seville Cathedral, from the nave to Columbus's tomb
Highlights
- Largest Gothic floor area anywhere
- A tomb carried by four kingdoms
- An unresolved historical argument
- A gate surviving from the mosque
- Orange trees in the old courtyard
About this tour
This session moves through Seville Cathedral from the vast central nave to the disputed tomb of Christopher Columbus, ending at a surviving gate from the mosque that once stood here. You see the scale of the largest Gothic cathedral by floor area from directly underneath its vaults. The three stops trace the building's Islamic beginnings through to its Gothic rebuilding.
We open with a short check of the light inside, then move slowly between the three points, since the space itself takes time to read on a screen. I leave the argument over Columbus's remains open rather than settling it for you, and send a short list of names and dates once we finish.
This suits anyone drawn to grand interiors and disputed history in equal measure. It also works well as a first stop before a longer look at the surrounding old town.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
