About this tour

This session walks Barrio Santa Cruz, Seville's old Jewish quarter, from Santa María la Blanca to the Callejón del Agua and Plaza de Doña Elvira. You see the narrow lanes built along the medieval Judería and the courtyard of the Hospital de los Venerables. It is a neighbourhood explained through what happened here rather than just its pretty streets.

The guide opens with a sound check, then walks the lanes stop by stop, explaining what each square and building replaced. Questions come in live, and a short list of what was covered follows by message afterwards.

This suits anyone who wants Santa Cruz's history rather than just its photographs. It also suits viewers interested in the history of Spain's Jewish communities.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Seville before heading out.

  2. Santa María la Blanca 21 min

Walking the medieval Judería, the camera reaches Santa María la Blanca, a church that began as one of Seville's synagogues. The guide points out traces of the earlier building still visible inside.

  3. Callejón del Agua 21 min

Along the Callejón del Agua, the camera follows the old Alcázar wall on one side and whitewashed houses on the other. The guide explains why this narrow lane became one of the most painted corners of the city.

  4. Plaza de Doña Elvira 21 min

In Plaza de Doña Elvira, the guide tells the legend of Don Juan, said to have grown from stories that once circulated around this square. He points out the orange trees and tiled benches that give the plaza its character.

  5. Hospital de los Venerables 21 min

The walk ends at the courtyard of the Hospital de los Venerables, seen from the patio. The guide explains the events of 1391, when an attack on the Jewish quarter reshaped the neighbourhood for centuries.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Seville: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Espinacas con garbanzos and Triana, worth a slower look.

  • Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
