About this tour

This session follows an early walk up into the Sintra hills, from the forest footpaths below the Moorish Castle to the summit at Cruz Alta and down through Pena Park. The camera takes in the castle walls from below, the view from the highest point of the hills, and the lakes of the Queen's Fern Valley. It shows the grounds before the palaces open, when the paths are at their quietest.

The call opens with a sound check, then follows the route uphill and back down in order, with the guide pointing out the views as they open up and time kept for questions. A short list of what was seen is sent once the walk ends.

This suits early risers and anyone who prefers quiet paths and views over indoor rooms, whether planning a visit or missing the outdoors around Sintra.

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Sintra before heading out.

  2. Forest footpaths 21 min

Early on the old footpaths through the forest, before the palaces open for the day, the camera looks up at the Moorish Castle walls from below, and the guide explains the quiet at this hour.

  3. Cruz Alta 21 min

At Cruz Alta, the highest point of the hills at 529 metres, the camera turns slowly to take in the view, and on a clear morning the guide points out the Atlantic on one side and Lisbon on the other.

  4. Queen's Fern Valley 21 min

Coming down through the Queen's Fern Valley, the camera passes the lakes of Pena Park, and the guide talks about how this part of the grounds was planted to feel like a different climate entirely.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Sintra: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Pastel de nata and Sintra Town Centre, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Lisbon time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
