Stockbridge and the Water of Leith path
Highlights
- A Victorian shopfront still in use
- The Water of Leith through the city
- Herons fishing along the path
- A village feel close to the centre
- Stockbridge's independent shopping street
About this tour
This session walks Stockbridge's shopping street before dropping down to the Water of Leith walkway that runs beneath it. You see independent shops in a Victorian shopfront and the river curving quietly through the middle of the city. Alison explains how the neighbourhood kept its village feel despite sitting so close to the centre.
After a short sound check on the main street, the walk moves down to the river path at an easy pace, with time for questions throughout. Alison answers as you go and sends a short list of her favourite shops afterwards.
It suits anyone who wants a calmer, more residential side of Edinburgh, and works well alongside a New Town session nearby. It also appeals to those who enjoy riverside walks.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
