Highlights

  • Stockholm's narrowest public alley
  • A medieval street plan, still intact
  • Original facades against later copies
  • A quiet courtyard off the main street
  • A childhood spent above these streets

About this tour

This session walks Gamla Stan's narrowest alleys, from the famously tight Mårten Trotzigs Gränd to a quiet courtyard just off the main street. You see how little the medieval street plan has actually changed. I point out which facades are original and which were rebuilt to match the older style.

We move slowly through the alleys, since their width barely allows for anything else. I take questions throughout, drawing on a childhood spent living above one of these same streets. The session ends at the quietest courtyard we find.

This suits anyone wanting the old town explained beyond its main squares. It also works well as a first orientation before exploring Gamla Stan further alone.

Included

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Stockholm before heading out.

  2. Mårten Trotzigs Gränd 21 min

You see the narrowest public alley in Stockholm, barely wide enough for one person. I explain how the medieval street plan here has survived almost entirely intact.

  3. A hidden courtyard 21 min

The camera turns into a quiet courtyard off the main street, and I point out which facades date from the original medieval buildings and which are later additions dressed to match.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Stockholm: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Gravlax and Gamla Stan, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Stockholm time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
