About this tour

This session traces the walk from Strasbourg's medieval square to the modern European quarter, showing how the city changes character along the way. You follow the river past the Orangerie's edge to the Parliament building itself, seen from the public path outside. Antoine, who worked near the institutions for years, explains the district's growth in plain terms.

After a sound check at Place Kléber, the walk follows the river at a steady pace toward the institutions. Antoine slows down at each shift in architecture and takes questions about the Parliament as they arise. A short list of the route follows by message once the session ends.

This suits anyone curious about how a modern political district grew up beside a medieval one. It also works well for viewers with a general interest in EU institutions.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Strasbourg before heading out.

  2. Place Kléber to the Ill 21 min

The camera follows the river from the main square toward the modern district, the change in architecture happening gradually rather than all at once. I point out where the old town's boundary once ran.

  3. Parc de l'Orangerie edge 21 min

You see the park's edge where the European institutions begin, wide lawns replacing narrow streets. I explain how this land was chosen specifically because it was still open space in the 1970s.

  4. Parliament exterior 21 min

The camera holds on the Parliament building from the public riverside path, its glass and steel unmistakable against the older city behind it. I explain what happens inside without needing to go in, since the outside tells its own story.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Strasbourg: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Choucroute garnie and Krutenau, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.

  • Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
