About this tour

This session covers Toledo's Sunday market, focused on the produce stalls and a stall selling cochifrito, the region's fried lamb dish. You see what changes season to season and hear how the recipe varies from one cook to another. It is a food session built around one specific weekly rhythm.

We move with the market's own pace, pausing longer at stalls willing to talk about their produce or recipe. I ask questions I think you would want answered, since a Sunday morning market moves faster than a quiet walk. The session finishes once the stalls start thinning out.

This suits anyone in Toledo on a Sunday who wants a real taste of regional food beyond restaurant menus. It also works well for viewers planning their own cooking with Castilian ingredients.

Included

  • Live video session with a local guide
  • A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
  • A short list of places and dishes to try later

Not included

  • Food and drinks shown on camera
  • Travel to the city

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Toledo before heading out.

  2. The Sunday produce stalls 21 min

Stalls sell whatever is in season from the surrounding countryside, mushrooms in autumn and game in winter depending on the month. I point out which vendors travel furthest to sell here.

  3. A cochifrito stall 21 min

The dish, fried young lamb with garlic and paprika, is sold ready to take away from a small stall most Sundays. I ask the vendor how the recipe differs from house to house across the region.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Toledo: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Perdiz estofada (braised partridge) and Covachuelas, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking".
