Toruń's leaning tower, explained
Highlights
- A tower leaning off vertical
- Unstable ground beneath a medieval wall
- A local tradition of testing your balance
- A defensive tower, now known differently
- A short, characterful old town stop
About this tour
This short session looks at Toruń's Leaning Tower, a medieval defensive structure now known for the wrong reasons. You see the tower's clear tilt from outside and the spot where a small local tradition invites people to test their own balance against the wall. It is a quick, characterful stop.
I start with a sound check facing the tower, then explain the ground conditions that caused the lean before demonstrating the local tradition myself. Questions are welcome throughout, and I send a short note afterwards on the tower's original purpose.
This suits anyone who wants a short, lighter session alongside a longer old town walk. It also works well as a quick first stop before the market square.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

- A short list of places to visit later

The Leaning Tower 15 min
You see the medieval defensive tower leaning noticeably off vertical, and I explain how the ground beneath it gave way not long after it was built.
-
Testing the Tilt 15 min
The camera moves to the traditional spot where visitors stand with their back to the wall, and I explain the local tradition of testing how far you can lean before losing balance.

-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Pierogi and Nowe Miasto (New Town), worth a slower look.
Good to know

- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Warsaw time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
