About this tour

This session moves through a former Augustinian monastery now holding one of the region's finest sculpture collections, from its worn cloister to the chapter house and garden. You see medieval carving in the setting it was originally built for. It focuses on one building's long history rather than the wider city.

We move slowly through the cloister first, since the light there suits filming well, then into the chapter house for the collection's centrepiece and out to the garden to finish. I answer questions about the Revolution's effect on the building as they come up naturally at each stop. A short note on the collection follows the call.

This suits anyone interested in medieval sculpture or the history of religious buildings repurposed over time. It also pairs well with a shorter walking session in the surrounding streets.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Toulouse before heading out.

  2. Musée des Augustins cloister 17 min

The camera moves along the cloister's arcades, part of the monastery before it became a museum, the stone worn smooth in places by centuries of use. I point out the carved capitals still in their original position.

  3. The chapter house 17 min

We step into the room where the monks once met daily, now holding some of the museum's finest medieval sculpture. I explain how the building's original purpose still shapes the way the collection is arranged.

  4. The sculpture garden 17 min

The session ends outdoors, where larger stone pieces sit among the trees in what was once the monastery's own garden. I show you which fragments survived being removed during the Revolution and which were carved later to fill the gaps.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Toulouse: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Saucisse de Toulouse and Carmes, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
