Bread and rye, cathedral quarter
Highlights
- Two loaves, explained side by side
- A bread built to last at sea
- A baker's own fermentation notes
- Ingredients and technique, not just taste
- A simple recipe sent after the call
About this tour
This short call compares two Finnish staples, ordinary rye bread and Turku's own dark, sweet archipelago bread, from my own kitchen. I explain the different fermentation and sweetening behind each loaf. It draws directly on my training as a baker rather than general food history.
I talk through the loaves side by side and take your questions on ingredients, technique or history as they come up. The call stays focused and short. I send a simple version of the archipelago recipe afterwards for anyone who wants to try it.
This suits anyone interested in baking or Nordic food traditions who wants real technique rather than a tasting menu. It also works well alongside the market square session.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
