The marble floor of knights and nobles, described
Highlights
- Hundreds of inlaid marble tombstones
- Knights remembered underfoot
- Funerary art described in detail
- A cathedral floor unlike any other
- History told through symbols and stone
About this tour
This call describes the floor of St John's Co-Cathedral, made up of hundreds of inlaid marble tombstones, each marking an individual knight. You hear a detailed, spoken account of specific tombstones and their symbols rather than seeing them directly, since filming inside is not permitted. The call stays focused on this one feature throughout.
I describe a handful of specific tombstones in turn, explaining their symbols and inscriptions, and take your questions as I go. I send a short note afterwards naming the knights described.
It suits anyone with a specific interest in the Knights of St John or unusual funerary art. It also works well alongside the exterior session for a fuller picture of the building.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
