About this tour
This session follows Valletta's food streets, from a pastizzi counter to a bakery selling ftira and gbejniet cheese and a stall frying imqaret. The guide moves between three stops in the historic centre, explaining what goes into each dish and why locals eat it the way they do. It is a look at everyday Maltese food rather than a restaurant tour.
The session opens with a sound check, then moves stop by stop between counter, bakery and stall, pausing wherever the guide wants a closer look at what is being made. Questions are answered as they come up, and a shortlist of places to try later follows the call.
This suits anyone curious about Maltese food before or after a trip, or anyone who simply likes watching food being made. It also works well around a mealtime at home.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 7 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Valletta before heading out.
-
Pastizzi counter 21 min
Outside a pastizzi counter, the camera watches trays come out of the oven, and the guide explains the difference between the ricotta and the pea filling and why locals eat these standing up on the way to work.
-
Ftira and gbejniet stop 21 min
At a bakery and small cheese shop, the guide shows how ftira is built with tuna, capers, olives and tomato paste, then holds up gbejniet, the little sheep cheeses, alongside a bowl of bigilla bean dip.
-
Imqaret stall 21 min
The last stop is a stall frying imqaret, the date pastries, and the guide explains what goes into the dough and the filling while the pastries cook, with a glass of Maltese wine and a Kinnie shown on the counter beside them.

-
A short list to keep 6 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Ftira and Valletta city centre, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
