About this tour
This session is a home cooking evening in a family kitchen above a Cannaregio canal, following bigoli in salsa, a seasonal risotto and fegato alla veneziana from start to finish. You see each dish built from a few ingredients typical of the lagoon, with wine from the Veneto poured alongside. The setting stays inside one kitchen rather than moving through the streets.
After a sound check, the cook works through each dish in turn, explaining technique and answering questions as the stove allows, then sends the recipes afterwards for anyone who wants to cook the same meal.
This suits anyone who wants a closer look at home cooking in Venice, rather than restaurant food.
Included
- Live video session with a local guide
- A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
- A short list of places and dishes to try later
Not included
- Food and drinks shown on camera
- Travel to the city
Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 10 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Venice before heading out.
-
A kitchen above the canal 21 min
The camera opens on a family kitchen with a window over a quiet canal, and the cook explains what is on the stove for the evening before starting on the first dish.
-
Bigoli in salsa 21 min
The cook works anchovy and onion into a thick sauce for bigoli, the heavy Venetian pasta, and explains why this dish was built to use cheap, easy-to-store ingredients.
-
The risotto of the season 21 min
Depending on what is fresh that week, the camera follows a risotto made with lagoon fish or vegetables from Sant'Erasmo, stirred slowly at the stove while the cook explains the timing.
-
Fegato alla veneziana 21 min
The last dish shows calf's liver and onions cooked slowly the Venetian way, or a fish main when liver is not to taste, finished with a glass of wine from the Veneto poured to one side.
-
Your questions 18 min
Time to ask anything about Venice: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 8 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Sarde in saor and Dorsoduro, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Rome time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
