San Zeno's bronze doors, panel by panel
Highlights
- Bronze doors, among Italy's finest
- Relief panels, described one by one
- A basilica known for one feature
- Romanesque craft, up close
- Verona's quieter artistic treasure
About this tour
This session covers Basilica di San Zeno, focused mainly on its bronze doors. You see the Romanesque facade as a whole, then move closer to the doors themselves, cast in relief panels considered among the finest examples of the period in Italy. It is a detailed, close-up session on a single remarkable feature.
We start with a sound check facing the facade, since the square nearby stays fairly quiet. I move closer to the doors for the second stop and take your questions about individual panels as we go. A short reading list follows by message afterwards.
It suits anyone with an interest in medieval bronze work or Romanesque sculpture. It also works well paired with a session on Sant'Anastasia's fresco.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
