- The Scaligers, from palace to tomb
About this tour
This session covers the Scaliger family's former residence in Piazza dei Signori and the elaborate tombs they built for themselves nearby. You see the residence they governed Verona from for over a century, then walk to the Arche Scaligere, their outdoor tombs topped with Gothic canopies. It is a short session on how one family marked both their power and their own memory in stone.
We start with a sound check facing the residence, since the square stays fairly quiet. I move to the tombs for the second stop and take your questions about the family's history as we go. A short reading list follows by message afterwards.
It suits anyone with an interest in medieval Italian politics or Gothic funerary architecture. It also works well paired with a session at Castelvecchio, another Scaliger building.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
