About this tour

This session covers Karlsplatz as a whole, where a Baroque church, Art Nouveau station pavilions and a public park all sit within sight of each other. You see the pavilions first and then the park linking everything into one view. It is a short session on how different centuries share one Viennese square.

I walk the square at an easy pace, explaining how the pavilions and church ended up sharing the same space despite belonging to very different periods. Questions come in throughout, and I answer them as we walk. A short note on the square's redevelopment history follows once we finish.

This suits anyone interested in how Vienna layers different architectural periods together. It also pairs well with the column reliefs session.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Vienna before heading out.

  2. Karlsplatz Pavilions 15 min

You see the Art Nouveau station pavilions at the square's edge, an unexpected contrast to the Baroque church behind them.

  3. Resselpark View 15 min

The camera turns across Resselpark, the green space linking the pavilions and the church into one continuous view.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Vienna: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Kaiserschmarrn and Neubau, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Vienna time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
