Dětský ostrov and the river's quieter bank
Highlights
- An island used by locals, not tourists
- A quieter view of Malá Strana
- The river away from the busiest bridges
- Everyday use of the Vltava
- A calmer stretch of the waterfront
About this tour
This session covers Dětský ostrov and a stretch of riverbank facing Malá Strana, both used mainly by locals rather than visitors. You see the smaller island and how residents actually use it, then a view of the opposite bank away from the busier bridges upstream. It is a quieter, more local look at the river.
I keep a relaxed pace throughout, since this session is built around noticing rather than covering ground quickly. Questions come as we go, and I am happy to slow down further if the water or a passing boat catches your attention. A short note on the river's rowing clubs follows by message afterwards.
This suits anyone who has already seen Charles Bridge and wants a quieter river view. It also suits viewers interested in how locals use the Vltava day to day.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Prague before heading out.
-
Dětský ostrov 15 min
The camera takes in a smaller island further along the river, and I explain how locals use it day to day rather than as a tourist stop.
-
The riverbank opposite Malá Strana 15 min
We move to the bank facing Malá Strana, and I point out how the view differs from the busier bridge crossings upstream.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Prague: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Svíčková (marinated beef in cream sauce) and Vinohrady, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
