Old Town: rebuilt, brick by brick
Highlights
- Castle Square, rebuilt from photographs
- Original bricks among postwar replacements
- Colourful tenements, explained in detail
- Reconstruction as history in itself
- Warsaw's Old Town, closely examined
About this tour
This session follows Castle Square into a row of Warsaw's Old Town tenements, all rebuilt after the war from paintings and photographs rather than surviving structures. You see the square itself, then a closer look at one building where a handful of original bricks were kept among the new ones. It is a look at reconstruction as much as history.
We start at the square with a short sound check, then move slowly along the tenement row so you can see the brickwork up close. I explain which parts are original and which are postwar as we go, taking questions throughout. A written list of the buildings follows afterwards.
It suits anyone curious about Warsaw's reconstruction rather than expecting an untouched medieval centre. It also works well as a first stop before a more detailed session on the Royal Castle.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Warsaw before heading out.
-
Castle Square 21 min
The camera opens on Castle Square, and I explain how almost every building around it was rebuilt after the war using old paintings and photographs as the only guide.
-
A rebuilt tenement row 21 min
We move along a row of colourful tenements, and I point out a few bricks near one doorway that are original salvage rather than postwar replacements.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Warsaw: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Pączki and Praga, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- Times are shown in Warsaw time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
