St Mark's tiled roof and the building beside it
Highlights
- Coats of arms added in a later restoration
- A government building beside a medieval church
- Two symbols of the country, one small square
- Roof tiles read up close, not from a photo
- A short focused look most visitors rush past
About this tour
This short session covers St Mark's Square from two angles, the famous tiled roof and the working Parliament building beside it. You see the coats of arms up close and then the plainer government façade only a few steps away. It stays on this one small square throughout.
I keep the phone steady looking upward at the tiles, then turn toward the Parliament for the second stop, taking questions about either building as they come up.
This suits anyone with an interest in symbolism or civic architecture. It also works well as a short first stop before a longer Upper Town session.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Zagreb before heading out.
-
St Mark's Church Roof 15 min
You see the coats of arms of Croatia and Zagreb tiled into the church roof, and I explain how the pattern was added in a nineteenth century restoration rather than dating back to the church's medieval origins.
-
The Parliament Building 15 min
The camera turns to the working government building right beside the church, and I point out how two very different symbols of the country share the same small square.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Zagreb: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Croatian wine and Upper Town, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Zagreb time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
