Como's Duomo and the Broletto beside it
Highlights
- A cathedral built across centuries
- Gothic walls, a Baroque dome
- Striped marble on a medieval courthouse
- Two buildings, two eras, one square
- Como's old town, explained from its centre
About this tour
This session covers Como's Duomo and the Broletto standing right beside it. You see the cathedral's mixed Gothic and Baroque facade, built across several centuries, then look at the Broletto's striped marble, once the seat of the city's medieval government. It is a short session on how two neighbouring buildings can each tell a different part of Como's history.
We start with a sound check facing the cathedral, since the square can fill with market stalls on some mornings. I move beside it to the Broletto for the second stop and take your questions about either building as we go. A short reading note follows by message afterwards.
It suits anyone with an interest in architecture spanning several centuries. It also works well as a first session before exploring the old town's narrower streets.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Como before heading out.
-
Como Duomo facade 21 min
The camera takes in the cathedral's marble facade, and I explain how construction began in 1396 in Gothic style but finished centuries later with a Baroque dome.
-
Broletto arcade 21 min
We step beside it to the Broletto, and I point out the bands of white, pink and grey marble that once served as the city's medieval courthouse.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Como: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Missoltini (sun-dried, salted shad from the lake) and Centro storico, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
