The Royal Pavilion, from the gardens

- Gardens designed around an unusual silhouette
- A seaside retreat with an eastern look
- A building unlike anything nearby
About this tour
This call walks the gardens around a former royal palace built in a style borrowed from Indian and Islamic architecture. You see the domed exterior from several angles first, then the curving garden paths that frame it. I explain why the Prince Regent chose such an unusual style for a seaside retreat.
We move slowly around the building, pausing at the best viewpoints for questions, and I keep the pace relaxed throughout. A short note on the building's history follows by message once the call ends.
This suits anyone new to the city who wants its most famous building explained properly. It also works well as a first call before exploring the surrounding streets.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

- A short list of places to visit later

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Brighton before heading out.
-
The domed exterior 21 min
The camera pans slowly across the onion domes and minarets, and I explain why a British royal residence was built to look like a palace from somewhere else entirely.
-
The garden pathways 21 min
You follow the curving paths through the surrounding gardens, and I point out how the planting was designed to complement the building's unusual silhouette.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Brighton: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Fish and chips and The Lanes, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
