About this tour
This session tells the story of the Vasa from outside the museum holding it, a warship that sank on its maiden voyage in 1628 and was recovered almost fully intact more than three centuries later. You see the museum's harbour setting while I explain the recovery using photographs I bring to the call. I draw on a season spent on the conservation team myself.
We stay at the harbour for the whole session, since the ship remains indoors and the recovery story stands on its own. I take questions on the engineering and the conservation work as they come. The pace stays careful, given how much detail there is to cover properly.
This suits anyone with a genuine interest in maritime history or engineering. It also works as strong context before or after a visit of your own.

Itinerary
-

-
The museum's harbour facade 21 min
You see the building holding the Vasa, a warship that sank on its maiden voyage in 1628. I explain how the ship stayed largely intact under the harbour mud for over three centuries.
-
Photographs of the recovery 21 min
I hold up images of the 1961 recovery operation, since the ship itself is kept indoors, and explain the engineering that lifted it in one piece.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Stockholm: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Meatballs (köttbullar) and Södermalm, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Stockholm time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
