I studied marine archaeology specifically because of the Vasa, a warship that sank on its maiden voyage in 1628 and was recovered almost fully intact more than three centuries later. On camera I stay on the harbour side of the museum building, since the ship itself is kept indoors, and explain the recovery operation using photographs and diagrams I hold up to the lens. I worked one season on the conservation team before moving into guiding full time. I keep the pace careful, since the engineering behind saving a wooden ship this size still surprises most people.
