About this tour

This session walks Baščaršija, Sarajevo's Ottoman-era old bazaar, starting at the wooden Sebilj Fountain at its centre. You see the fountain itself, still the natural gathering spot of the square, then the surrounding lanes where coppersmiths and coffee houses continue trading much as they have for generations. It is the clearest single introduction to the old town.

We start at the fountain with a sound check, then move into the lanes for the second stop, taking questions about the trades and buildings along the way. A short note follows once the session ends.

It suits a first stop for anyone new to Sarajevo's old town. It also works well as a short introduction before a longer historical session.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Sarajevo before heading out.

  2. The Sebilj Fountain 15 min

The camera holds on the wooden Ottoman fountain at the centre of the square, and I explain its role as a gathering point for the old bazaar.

  3. Through the bazaar lanes 15 min

We move into the lanes around it, and I point out the coppersmiths and coffee houses that still trade the way they have for generations.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Sarajevo: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Ćevapi and Marijin Dvor, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Sarajevo time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
