About this tour

This session moves across the rooftop terraces of Milan's cathedral before finishing at the entrance to the Galleria next door. You see the spires and statues up close from the marble walkways, then look down over Piazza del Duomo before the session ends beneath the Galleria's glass dome. It is a rooftop view of the city's most recognisable landmark, followed by the arcade built right beside it.

We start with a sound check on the terrace, since wind can pick up at height. From there we move stop by stop toward the square below and finish under the Galleria's dome, and I take questions as we go rather than saving them for the end. A short note on the marble and its upkeep follows by message afterwards.

It suits anyone who wants a proper look at the cathedral's stonework rather than a quick glance from the square. It also works well early in a trip, as an introduction to the centre of Milan.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Milan before heading out.

  2. Duomo rooftop terrace 17 min

From the rooftop terrace the camera moves among the cathedral's spires and statues up close, and I explain how the pale pink marble was quarried specifically for this building and still gets replaced piece by piece today.

  3. Piazza del Duomo 17 min

We look down at the square from the edge of the terrace, and I point out the equestrian statue and the tram lines that still cross it every few minutes.

  4. Galleria entrance arch 17 min

The walk finishes at the Galleria's glass-domed entrance, and I describe the mosaic floor and the tradition of turning on one heel over the bull for luck.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Milan: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Ossobuco and Brera, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Rome time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
