Kiek in de Kök and the tunnels beneath it
Highlights
- A tower named for looking into kitchens
- Cannon-proof walls, explained
- Tunnels running beneath the old town
- An unusual corner of Tallinn's history
- A short, curious detour
About this tour
This session stands at the base of a cannon tower known for its unusual name and looks at the entrance to the tunnel network running beneath it. You see the thick walls built to withstand cannon fire, then hear what the underground passages were used for over the centuries. It is a short session on one of the old town's more unusual corners.
I start with a sound check at the tower base, then move to the tunnel entrance, answering questions as we go. A short note on the tunnels' later uses follows by message afterwards.
It suits anyone interested in military engineering or underground history. It also pairs well with a city walls session.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
